In the first ten months of 2025, 18 million passengers used the services of train operator Vivi – 1.7 million, or 11%, more than during the same period last year, when 16.3 million passengers were transported. At the same time, train punctuality – a measure reflecting trips completed according to the schedule – was 98.6% during this period, maintaining Vivi position among the most punctual train operators in Europe.
In October, the number of passengers continued to grow on electrified railway lines, served by Vivi new electric trains. Over the ten months, the fastest passenger growth compared with the corresponding period in 2024 was on the Skulte route, where it increased by 15%, followed by the Jelgava and Aizkraukle routes with 11%.
The most popular line this year in the ten-month period, despite the extensive modernization works on the electrified network by the state-owned “Latvijas dzelzceļš,” remains Riga–Tukums, with 6.5 million passengers – 10% more than in 2024.
Positive growth during the ten-month period was also observed on non-electrified railway lines – the number of passengers on the Sigulda route increased by 14%, and on the Daugavpils route by 8%. The number of passengers on the Lugaži–Valga route more than doubled, reflecting the growing interest of residents in convenient international train connections in the Baltic states.
In October, more than 2,900 “Rīgas vienotā biļete” were also sold. These tickets allow passengers to save one euro per trip when using both Vivi train services and “Rīgas satiksme” public transport. More than half of these tickets were purchased by passengers on the Riga–Tukums route, 21% on the Riga–Skulte route, 17% on the Riga–Jelgava route, and 11% on the Riga–Aizkraukle route.
Passenger transport infrastructure modernization is currently actively underway – the state-owned “Latvijas dzelzceļš” is rebuilding passenger platforms to provide easier and safer access to trains. Vivi encourages passengers to regularly check schedule changes, which are being implemented due to various repair works.
